The AKHS course was one of the best courses, and for many reasons the best course, I have ever taken – Click to read full Trip Advisor review
“I signed up for this training with the purpose of increasing my knowledge associated with kidnapping, in order to improve my capabilities as a protection provider. However, this is a course that I believe would benefit anyone traveling outside of the U.S., or even within the U.S., as was apparent in the diversity of the students (men and women, ranging in ages from 20s to about 60) in our class….This course will definitely provide you with a realistic view of security around the world, prepare you with the knowledge and skills to implement your own security measures, and overall provide you with relevant and up-to-date information that will allow you to make well informed decisions when it comes to security and traveling.” – Dutch J, Executive Protection Services Professional, March 2019
This course is an eye-opening learning experience about how to avoid becoming a hostage, and if that occurs what to expect and how to increase your chances of survival in both international and domestic scenarios. Peaceful situations can turn violent quickly (i.e. the Jan 6, 2021 Capitol siege). Some hostage scenarios are carried out by opportunists while others are the result of planning against specific targets through unsuspected social media posts.
Modifications have been implemented for pandemic safety. Temperature checks on all participants will be conducted upon arrival each day, COVID questionnaires will be filled out and face coverings are required. The class will take place outdoors under a sheltered area following social distancing guidelines.
Please note this training includes physical activities and is not for everyone. The workshops include situations that may put students out of their comfort zone, however students may opt-out of any or all of the workshop exercises.
Historically this unique instruction was suggested for people traveling or working abroad, however anyone may benefit due to recent domestic conditions. Class alumni include war journalists, executive protection service providers, C-Suite level executives & families, engineers on assignment and students participating in travel abroad programs. We now suggest this class for government workers.
This class is empowering. It gives students knowledge about real-world risks and the psychology of hostage takers. Having this knowledge can help you to keep your composure during an incredibly stressful or life-threatening time. The presentations and workshops will give you insight to surprising levels of sophistication used globally by ‘bad-actors’.
Both the Basics and Advanced class include but are not limited to:
Situational Awareness
Captivity and Survival Psychology
Human, Material, and Facility Escape
Evasion From Recapture
Becoming a Hard Target
Protecting Your Assets
The 3-day Basics class includes numerous workshops on self defense techniques and escape from various types of restraints. The 2-day Advanced class (Basics class is the prerequisite) includes workshop simulations on situational awareness and additional advanced topics.
