NORA’s 2020 SOAR! Program is subsidized through a grant from the Disability Opportunity Fund. Because of this generous gift, you pay what you can afford.

NORA is excited to bring you our Adaptive Adventures program: SOAR!
This program is recommended for participants with disabilities requiring use of a wheelchair. Some activities (not all) require participants have sufficient upper body strength and trunk control to navigate/use a manual wheelchair. We are working in cooperation with Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital, GRIT Freedom Chair and the Disability Opportunity Fund to bring you innovative and exciting programs for you to enjoy and be challenged.
Our Program Samplers allow guests to enjoy a various adaptive experiences at our Ellenville Training Center. Each Sampler offers guests to rotate through multiple experience stations.
Book a SOAR! Sampler day for 1,2 or 3 wheelchair guests.
SOAR Samplers (Ellenville, NY) run 10am – 3pm. Each wheelchair guest may bring up to one able-bodied guest along. SOAR! Sampler Day Schedule:

NORA’s 2020 SOAR! program offers educational activities for varying ranges of ability including paraplegic and quadriplegic diagnosis, please contact us to discuss your particular abilities.
You may select up to 3 of the following activities for your SOAR! Day @ NORA:
- GRIT Freedom Chair Trail Ride
Learn about the GRIT Freedom Chair and how it operates. Start out on flat terrain to acquire the driving skills, and soon you will be navigating woodland trails with NORA staff by your side. This activity requires a strong core and upper body strength as you will be using both arms and hands to control the Freedom chair using a pumping motion. - GRIT Freedom Chair Obstacle Course
Take it up a level and show your competitive side as you navigate an obstacle course challenge in the GRIT Freedom Chair. Designed for individual chair riders or a two-person team consisting of a chair rider and one able bodied guest. - Action Trackchair Woodland Trail Ride & Scavenger Hunt
Learn about the Action Trackchair and how it operates as you drive over some of the same rugged woodland terrain as our Off Road driving guests. While on the trails, keep your eyes open for NORA’s scavenger hunt critters along the way. - Off-Road Passenger Ride-a-Long
Experience an adrenaline rush at 3 mph as you enjoy an off-road ride-a-long as a passenger in a NORA trail rig. Your NORA guide will drive you and your able-bodied guest through our natural terrain trail network including steep uphills, downhills, rocks and ledges. Please note chair guests need good core control and be able to transfer into/out of the rig using a transfer board at our transfer station. - Air Gun Marksmanship
Practice your marksmanship skills at NORA’s air gun range under the supervision of NORA staff. Includes safety class and operations review for different types of air guns. You and your able-bodied guest can compete for high score bragging rights.
Non-Sampler Offerings:
- Introduction to Off-Road Driving (with adaptive controls).
Learn off-road driving principles and drive our obstacle course & woodland trails using one of our NORA 4×4 Jeeps equipped with adaptive controls. (Guests need to be certified to drive on-road with adaptive controls).
