The Readiness Collective and NORA have teamed up to offer Vehicle Proficiency as a Readiness Collective Certification. Training venues include the Readiness Collective headquarters in Norwalk, CT within The SoNo Collection and NORA’s training center in Ellenville, NY.
We spend a lot of time in our vehicles on and off road. It makes sense for us to have an understanding for how to pack them, how to keep them going and how to navigate less than conventional terrain when on adventures, exploring the backcountry or braving the elements on a ski trip up north.
Our Readiness Collective training series has been designed to help you understand the Why’s & How’s on general vehicle preparedness along with off-road driving techniques to be ready for low traction driving scenarios. This program totals 20 module training hours giving you significant knowledge with practical experience in vehicle confidence and off road driving/recovery.
Module: Under The Hood Confidence – (90 mins @Norwalk, CT) Understanding basics of Internal Combustion Engine fluids and electrical systems. Explains basic vehicle maintenance and how to deal with common issues including no-start conditions. Topics include engine fluids, charging system, Check Engine Light (CEL) diagnosis, battery jumpstart.
Module: Tires & Automotive Preparedness – (90 mins @Norwalk, CT) Focus on Tires and Automotive Preparedness (TAP). Explains differences in tire types and ratings, tire maintenance, vehicle jacks, changing/patching a flat. Includes review of what to keep in your car preparedness kit & Go Bag.
Module: Off-Road Driving Essentials Classroom (90 mins@Norwalk, CT) – Learn about 4WD vehicles capabilities including functional controls, driving on varying terrain, spotter hand signals and safety. This is the prerequisite to the practical driving class, techniques learned are applicable to any low-traction terrain.
Module: Off-Road Driving Essentials Practical (5 hrs@Ellenville, NY) – Training focuses on controlling your vehicle through precision driving techniques with additional topics for Readiness Collective members. Instructors guide you through obstacle courses and natural terrain mountain trails as you experience steep hills, rocks, ledges and tight woodland terrain. Module: Getting Unstuck Classroom (90 mins @ Norwalk, CT) – Learn how to keep moving forward by understanding why you are stuck, then applying various techniques to get unstuck. Common recovery gear including traction boards and kinetic energy ropes will also be reviewed. This class is the prerequisite to our practical training.
Module: Getting Unstuck Practical (4 hrs@Ellenville, NY) – This 4-hour class includes recovery workshops to learn how to properly use tow straps, kinetic energy ropes, traction boards and vehicle mounted winches (NORA provides all equipment). Upon workshop completion, we hit the trails where students will use learned driving and recovery techniques in various mountain, woodland and sand scenarios.
Final Module: Simulation For Certification (5 hrs@Ellenville, NY) – This is the culmination of your series training where you participate in a 4 hour practical simulation missions to demonstrate your knowledge in all readiness skills areas. Readiness Collective & NORA staff will supervise your missions to ensure a fun and safe environment. Participants who demonstrate competency in all skill levels will receive Readiness Collective certification.
