“I did the ‘off-road driving essentials’ and the ‘getting unstuck basics’ late November 2024 over two days. I thought the class was excellent as a relatively new off-road driver. They covered basics, but also some more advanced things and then We did it live on the trails while they coached. I especially liked the winch training, which we did with my truck while on a very steep hill. NORA was very safety focused and very focused on vehicle preservation, too. There were 8 trucks in my class: grenadiers, defenders, broncos, tacomas, ranger, 4Runner. If you want, they have 4 or 5 jeeps you can rent if needed. Everyone was friendly and we all shared photos too. I did this with my son, it was a fun father-son event. Also, there are some interesting local joint restaurants within 15mins…”

It’s not a question of whether you get stuck, but when you get stuck. Our recovery training classes prepare you with knowledge and experience to get unstuck. These classes contains much of the same material as our Professional Training delivered to fire departments & emergency services, U.S. Government, utility companies, farm workers, etc. There are no pre-requisites, anyone can sign up for any of these public classes or take them as Private Training with one-on-one instruction.
REC-101B Getting Unstuck: Recovery Basics
Workshops & Trails: 5/17, 8/16, 11/22
Many people who want to drive off-road have ‘stuck anxiety’, this class teaches techniques and demonstrates different gear for overcoming basic stuck scenarios with focus on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle self-recovery using recovery straps, rope and traction boards. NORA provides all recovery gear; however, students are welcome to bring their own equipment. This class is also held as Day 2 of our Bootcamp training weekends. Includes workshops and instructional trail driving. Rental rigs available. Passengers ages 7 and up.
REC-101W Getting Unstuck: Safe Winching Skills
Workshop & Trails: 4/4, 9/19
This class focuses on safe winch recovery. Covers the basics as well as advanced winching techniques using single and multi-pulley blocks. Includes workshops and recovery on challenging terrain. This class is a must for anyone who owns or plans to own a vehicle mounted winch. Passengers ages 7 and up. Note: This class is usually held 9am-12pm on the same day as the Ellenville Coach & Drive 1pm-4pm, note the two classes run different trails on the Ellenville property.
REC-101H Getting Unstuck: Safe Hi-Lift Jack Skills
Workshop & Trails: 7/19
This class focuses on safe technique using the Hi-Lift Jack in vehicle recovery. Covers the basics including component review, safe operation, popular accessories and techniques. Includes workshops and recovery on challenging terrain. This class is a must for anyone with a lifted vehicle or who owns/plans to own a Hi-Lift Jack. Passengers ages 7 and up. This class is usually held 9am-12pm on the same day as the Ellenville Coach & Drive 1pm-4pm, note the two classes run different trails on the Ellenville property.
